Summary

We tested the action of sending a file on the computer, to someone via e-mail, on Novell Linux Desktop 9. The major issues found can be summarized as follows.

  1. Send/Receive button is unintuitive.
  2. Evolution is hard to discover as being the mail application
  3. Attachment list is hidden by default, though attachments are added.

Tasks

We used one task to test the sending a file via e-mail. It was:
  1. Please send the electronic book, "A Tale of Two Cities" in an e-mail to your friend with the provided address.
    • Success Rate: 80%
    • Time spent on this task
      Average 4 minutes 35 seconds
      Longest 9 minutes 43 seconds
      Shortest 1 minutes 24 seconds
    • Issues encountered:
      1. Send/Receive button is unintuitive.
      2. Evolution is hard to discover as being the mail application
      3. Attachment list is hidden by default, though attachments are added.
    • Recommendations:
      1. Change the wording of the Send/Recieve functionality in Evolution, so that users do not confuse it with mail creation.
      2. Split the Evolution menu entry into multiple entries for the various components, and make them more prominent in the menus.
      3. Make the attachment list visible by default when attachments are added, in Evolution. (Done in 2.3)
